Each gesture, presentation of food and drink, and interpersonal interaction is so thoughtful, loving and nuanced.I can not recommend this place more highly! It’s a place that leaves one feeling nourished, both in gustatory and emotional terms. I am so happy that their grilled maitake mushrooms are still on the menu. And fabulous service. Pricey has others have mentioned, but we have had equally expensive meals in town that were not nearly as good as this. Server's service was exceptional and she helped us find an awesome Sake to go with our meal.Overall, will not return as I can get better and a higher quantity and variety of sushi for the same price at Kaji or Saku. At this spot, guests can enjoy the enjoyable atmosphere and beautiful decor. That’s more than just about food— but the food is also divine and surpasses many Michelin star restaurants I have been to across the globe. The chef should focus more on the cut, cure and rice instead of guiding us through the sushi eating process like we’re school kids who’ve never eaten good sushi... Not worth the price at all. Just the most yummy food!! Between learning about here all the fish and products used comes from and the added history of other items it made for an awesome experience. Cudos to him.
I'm looking forward to treating myself for my birthday in a couple of months...as unoriginal as the idea may be at this point! It’s exceptionally expensive and there’s a good chance you’ll still be hungry after. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated along a table by the window which was fashioned from a cross cut of a huge tree trunk- a marvel indeed and an instant inspiration for a conversation. My sister who had been to Skippa previously mentioned that a prior menu was better, so maybe I just got unlucky with this menu.Service, however was attentive enough. Go here, eat whatever he recommends, be blow away! Tea was always topped, each course explained upon service. {"baseUrl":"http://www.opentable.com","environment":"prod-sc","hostName":"mesos-agent243-prod-sc.otsql.opentable.com:31002","language":"en","releaseName":"start-page-docker_teamcity_2.0.10339","requestId":"2d3ad4dc-bb76-4f98-8574-940af471a6d5"}. Sitting at the chef's table is a wonderful experience and anyone looking for a special night out in Toronto should consider the idea.Kati, the amazing GM, also deserves a special shoutout. The rest of the courses served were okay but not worth the price - specially considering the vegetarian courses. Great service. AMAZING FOOD! 81 reviews of Skippa "I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Skippa sets the bar for contemporary Japanese cuisine. Overall the experience was fantastic from start to finish. Thanks! Thank you very much! While I wish we were able to sit at the high top I'm sure I'll be back and request seating there. The atmosphere was casual and unpretentious with everyone clearly respecting food and the art of making it. OpenTable is part of Booking Holdings, the world leader in online travel and related services. Top Reviews of Skippa 4.0 stars - Based on 4 reviews . They like to emphasize where the ingredients come from (some domestic, mostly international,) but the value is lost since distance of travel does not equal quality. The amount of dishes was generous and was a full experience as they described the plates. Was underwhelmed by the food-- tastes weren't particularly unique/aromatic/pleasing, ingredients not particularly fresh. This was our second visit and it continues to be one of the absolute best meals in Toronto. I've been fortunate enough to have a couple great experiences with Skippa. the "trust skipper" tasting menu is excellent. I expected the sushi fish to be of better quality for the price. My dining mate loved her à la carte choices, Absolutely love the food. In fact, Skippa’s vibe is laid back – an open kitchen so you can see what Ian and team are doing, Kati at the pass calling out orders. It will be hard to beat this experience in Toronto. We were so ecstatic that we ordered a bottle of wine more than halfway through our meal. For the price being set at such level, the sushi should be a lot better. Flown in from Japan and you can certainly tell its top tier product! more. Really nice! There’s no military responses of “yes Chef!”, instead the kitchen working as a well-oiled machine, Ian going around to answer questions and have a taste of broth when he’s not busy creating the sushi piece-by-piece. Thanks again, team. I also expected a higher quantity of Sushi given the price - 6 is just not worth it whereas other Sushi Omakase serve around 15 different kinds of sushi for the same price and tastes better and quality is better as well. Thank-you so much Skippa, we'll never forget your generous hospitality!! A really wonderful place for dinner. Map updates are paused. Awesome food - tasting menu was epic! The fish was top quality but the chef lacked knife skills.
It’s like eating A5 Kobe beef well done in the microwave. This place deserves such a standing in the coming years! We have been in the restaurant business for over 40 years. Had only the sushi preset for $50. Our waiter was the best and it was only upon paying did we find out we were his first table ever. These two items ruined the beautiful sushi. The food was fantastic, as good as we remember eating in the best places in Japan, and the sake was delicious. Not a traditional sushi expert but I was disappointed. To the point where they kept changing from chop sticks to cutlery depending on the food being served. This is the version of our website addressed to speakers of English in the United States. Unfortunately, this restaurant is not on the OpenTable reservation network. Don't expect straight traditional Japanese food. Zoom in to see updated info. I've never been to a restaurant where the service staff has been so attentive. He's tough to impress, holds everything (especially food) to a high standard, and does not like a fuss for this birthday. But one of the chefs brought a new serving, apologized, and the remainder of the courses were served observing her request. Fantastic takeaway during COVID-19 stage 1 and excellent patio dining in stage 3. Chef and staff acknowledged our celebration with sparklers and a Polaroid with dessert. From the moment I walked through the doors I fell in love. This restaurant is recommended to Japanese cuisine lovers. So it was with that in mind that I booked Skippa- an unassuming, small culinary tour de force, in an equally unassuming stretch of Harbord Street. It leaves one feeling more expansive and realizing what a true love of one’s work can do to make everyone feel welcome and deeply valued. Just make a reservation. Flawlessly incredible in both food and service. This is one of the most special places in Toronto or elsewhere. Best of all was the taste and freshness of the food was beyond compare. THE SERVICE WAS IMPECCABLE :)I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! Contact Reserve Reserve I’ve enjoyed every visit, so much. I held out on a visit to Skippa until an important milestone came around and my husband's birthday was just the right one. Even each piece of bite sized sushi has a little twist to the flavour. Awesome tasting menu with lots of variety. I first heard about Skippa's takeout bento boxes on instagram and was immediately drawn to order one. It's a pleasant experience to order perfectly cooked nigiri, sea bream and oysters. My girlfriend and I got engaged and I decided to book a dinner at Skippa to celebrate. It's absolutely outstanding. Will definitely be back! The fish wasn’t cut properly and the nigiri rice didn’t hold together. This small restaurant specializes in Japanese cuisine with shareable plates. 379 Harbord St Toronto, Ontario M6G 1H8 © 2019 Skippa. Second time going for our anniversary. So flavourful. Great service too. The ambiance is upscale without an upscale menu price and the food is like something I've never experienced before. I always recommend this place to my clients (I own a small business in the city) and every time I do, my clients come back and tell me how much they loved it! It crumbles as soon as you pick up the nigiri. ... We have now ordered takeout several times, always fish and chips. Also, side note, we will be travelling to Japan in a few months, where he says he's looking more forward to the food than anything else (big statement from an architect). Service is great. Skippa tasting menu ranks in the top 5 meals we have ever eaten. This time around the highlights for me were the oysters from New Zealand topped with Ontario strawberries and the melt-in-your-mouth rosy seabass (aka mutsu) from Fukuoka. We are never disappointed when we dine at Skippa, and actually the seems to be getting even better each time. Great little place. Each course was presented with the details of the dish, the source from the super friendly, proud and knowledgable staff, and was followed by another meticulously lated item that beat the last one in execution and flavour. On recommendations from a couple of friends, came to visit and ordered Trust Skippa. To order nicely cooked nigiri, sea bream and sashimi is a really good idea. Servers were friendly and accommodating. If you believe this review should be removed from OpenTable, please let us know and someone will investigate. Tasting the delicious beer is a nice idea.
