It’s the ’80s on Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider. First up is the
remake of the ’80s horror film “Fright Night” starring Anton Yelchin,
Colin Farrell and Imogen Poots. Both Eric and Jeff were a fan of the
film, though Jeff seems a little surprised by how much he liked it.
Next, it’s the remake of the ’80s action flick that originally starred
Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now it stars Jason Momoa and Jeff and Eric say
it’s just a little bit crazy. Finally it’s the romance “One Day.” What
does that have to do with the ’80s? Well it takes place over the
course of many years, starting with 1988, so there.
We answer the QOTW: What bad 1980s movie do you think could be remade
into a good one?

Also, we have a special guest on the show next week! “Bellflower”
opens in Portland on 8/26, and we’re going to have
writer/director/star/producer/crazy person Evan Glodell on the show to

Jeff Bayer and Eric D. Snider have a lot of movies to talk about this week, so naturally they spend several minutes talking about unrelated tangents. But then, movies! “The Help” is a surprisingly effective story about race relations in the 1960s. Eric liked “Final Destination 5” more than Jeff did, and they both thought “30 Minutes or Less” was okay. “The Guard” is a very funny Irish dark comedy, and Eric quickly recommended “The Future.” There was some good QOTW action, too, with many fine answers provided by the listeners.

Jeff Bayer and Eric D. Snider do what they were born to do … and then they talk about movies. This week it’s the prequel “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” Snider liked it and Bayer did as well. Then they discuss the QOTW: What other film should have a prequel? After that it’s on to discussing the absolutely filthy, and sometimes very funny “The Change-Up” starring Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds. Two independent films made it to Portland this week, “Another Earth,” which both of them saw, and “Tabloid” which Snider saw. This week’s game of Pitch Me stars David Spade and Mark Wahlberg. Jeff Bayer and a newly clean-shaven Eric D. Snider have much to discuss on this week’s edition of Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider. First up is “Cowboys & Aliens,” which neither gentleman found particularly appealing, although neither of them hated it either. “Crazy Stupid Love,” on the other hand, is a funny and surprising ensemble comedy about love, and how it’s stupid and crazy. Jeff saw “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” and says you shouldn’t. Nobody saw “The Smurfs,” so whatever. There was some good Question of the Week action regarding items that should be paired up in movies, and a fine edition of Pitch Me involving dames on a submarine.

This week on Movie B.S. our film critics Jeff Bayer and Eric D. Snider review a superhero, an office mate and friends … with benefits. First up is “Captain America: The First Avenger” starring Chris Evans and Tommy Lee Jones. Eric was a bigger fan, but we both had a few issues for very different reasons. There’s also Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis trying to have it all in “Friends with Benefits.” Both of us think it rises above the average romantic comedy. It’s very rated R. Jeff saw “A Little Help” so you don’t have to. Plus, we play Jeff’s interview with Chris Evans (“Captain America”) and also Eric’s column Snide Remarks.

Did you know they made another Harry Potter? They did! It’s a fitting conclusion to the big saga, as Jeff and Eric convey in this week’s episode of “Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider.” Also terrific is “Winnie the Pooh,” an innocent and whimsical throwback to the old Disney shorts. Jeff reports that “A Better Life” is awfully hard to watch on account of being depressing; Eric reports that “Terri” is a vulgar “Napoleon Dynamite” clone that’s only so-so. This week on Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider, we’re only talking about two movies hitting wide release. First up, it’s “Horrible Bosses” starring Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. Jeff was really excited for this one and decided it was simply good, not great. Eric liked it a little bit more. Next up the “family” comedy “Zookeeper” starring Kevin James. For the Fourth of July, Jeff Bayer and Eric D. Snider are celebrating freedom from great movies. “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and “Larry Crowne” are both lousy, and “Monte Carlo” is only so-so. Jeff saw the New York Times documentary “Page One” (Eric didn’t) and says it’s pretty good, if you like newspapers and journalism and stuff. “Transformers” provides a good excuse to talk about toys that should be made into movies; the guys update their box-office competition; and Eric reads more iTunes reviews in old-timey voice.

Jeff Bayer and Eric D. Snider are … wait for it, wait for it …
talking movies this week on “Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider.” First
up is Pixar’s animated sequel “Cars 2” starring Larry the Cable Guy.
Yes, he’s the lead. Jeff and Eric don’t hate this movie, but it’s the
worst of the Pixar bunch. They also dive into what this “Cars” world
means. Next up is “Bad Teacher” starring Cameron Diaz, Justin
Timberlake and Jason Segel. Two of those three aren’t that funny is
this R-rated comedy. “Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop” shows Conan (warts and
all) after being fired from “The Tonight Show” and focuses on his
comedy tour. The boys play Interquel with “Gremlins” and “40 Year-Old
Virgin.” This week’s QOTW is dedicated to “Transformers: Dark of the
Moon” and it’s this …

Jeff and Eric have four movies to discuss on this week’s edition of Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider! “Green Lantern” is reasonably entertaining fun, nothing great but not bad. “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” is an atrocity that Jeff and Eric hated. “The Trip” has two funny British guys, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, traveling around being funny together. “The Art of Getting By” is every indie coming-of-age comedy you’ve ever seen. We address last week’s QOTW, and then there’s a rousing game of Pitch Me that yields both a good title and a good tagline.

This week on Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider we’ve decided movies are good! First up, “Super 8” from the creative genius minds of J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg. It’s a classic, fun ride. Next up is “The Tree of Life” from the creative genius mind of Terrence Malick. You have to bring something to the table to enjoy this movie about life, God and the universe, and you should make sure to see it in the theater. See this film. Only Jeff saw “Beginners” and you should too. Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer are fantastic. We update the box office challenge and all signs point to Jeff not having to shave Eric at the end of the summer.

This week on Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider, Jeff and Eric disagree slightly on “X-Men: First Class.” Eric loved it, Jeff merely liked it. There’s a lot of friction over that. They both found Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris” funny and delightful, though, and Eric recommends the bloody “13 Assassins” (which Jeff didn’t see) for those who like bloody Japanese things. While Johnny Depp is still engaging as Captain Jack Sparrow, the new movie is very much like the last two. A lot of filler. Bayer saw “Water for Elephants” starring Robert Pattinson, Christoph Waltz and Reese Witherspoon. The backdrop of the 1930s circus was his favorite part, the other stuff … not bad.
