This week on Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider, Eric is once again off gallivanting (and watching movies) at the Sundance Film Festival. We bring in Mike Russell from the Oregonian to discuss Jason Statham’s new action movie “The Mechanic.” After he leaves, Jeff quickly runs through “The Rite” starring Anthony Hopkins (in a supporting role). Jeff wasn’t too keen on either one of them. After that it’s all things Oscar, talking about those films and people who missed out on a nomination, as well as Eric’s good times in Sundance. This week on Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider we review new movies and old(er) ones, Jeff does a lot of name dropping, and Eric does some festival dropping. This week on Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider we have a very special guest … Geoff LaTulippe. He’s the screenwriter for the romantic comedy “Going the Distance” starring Justin Long and Drew Barrymore. Before we talk to him we review “The Green Hornet” starring Seth Rogen. Both of us felt like “Hornet” had its moments, but feels more like a rental. Snider saw “The Dilemma” and Bayer chose to see the Portland Trailblazers instead. It sounds like Bayer won this round. With LaTulippe we even squeezed in a game of Pitch Me starring Sam Rockwell, Burt Reynolds and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Episode 41: ‘Season of the Witch,’ ‘Country Strong,’ ‘Casino Jack,’ ‘Forks Over Knives,’ ‘Hood to Coast’ interview
Bayer and Snider ring in the new year in the traditional fashion, i.e., with a couple of movies that aren’t very good. “Season of the Witch” is dumb but fun; “Country Strong” is dumb and not fun. Bayer didn’t care much for “Casino Jack,” either, though he was intrigued by the vegan documentary “Forks Over Knives.” (Snider didn’t see those two.) The holidays are coming and so are some movies totally worthy seeing. Eric D. Snider says “TRON: Legacy” is pretty to look at but not much else. Jeff Bayer disagrees and says it’s pretty to look at and more. “The Fighter” is a boxing movie worth your time with Christian Bale stealing many scenes away from Mark Wahlberg (not in a bad way). Eric didn’t see “I Love You Phillip Morris” but Jeff did and describes it as a gay “The Informant!” Thanks to knee surgery, Jeff didn’t sit through “How Do You Know” or “Yogi Bear” and that’s where Eric comes in to give you his take. Bayer and Snider discuss “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” (which isn’t particularly good), and Snider talks about “The Tourist” while Bayer doesn’t listen. Jeff Bayer and Eric D. Snider have no movies to talk about this week. What ever shall they do? Well, even though “Black Swan” isn’t out in Portland yet, they’re reviewing (and loving) it. It stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis and is in major cities in limited release. “The Warrior’s Way” didn’t have an advance screening, but film.com and thescorecardreview.com will eventually have reviews up. There are three big movies totally worth talking about and seeing this weekend, so let’s get to it. Eric D. Snider and Jeff Bayer agree the darker tone works for the almost final chapter of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” Both agree that after a slow, great buildup, “The Next Three Days” becomes a really good thrill ride starring Russell Crowe. Portland finally has “127 Hours” starring James Franco and directed by Danny Boyle, so go see it already. Once again, Bayer and Snider agree. A game of Pitch Me is played, but both think they’ve done better. This time around it’s Alan Rickman and Meg Ryan. This week on Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider the film critics review “Due Date,” “Megamind 3D” and “Fair Game.” Both critics agree that “Due Date” isn’t as funny as we all wanted it to be. Snider has a soft spot for Will Ferrell and that pushed him over the top with “Megamind,” while Bayer thinks it has a middle hour that will bore. “Fair Game” stars Naomi Watts and Sean Penn and Bayer loved it, saying it’s unofficially one of his Top 5 of the year. Snider couldn’t agree to that extent. Film critics Jeff Bayer and Eric D. Snider spend a lot of time talking about all things jackass-y. The both agree “Jackass 3D” will make you laugh whether you like it or not. Plus, they give personal stories from jackass moments in their lives. The critics review “RED” starring Bruce Willis is something you’ve seen before. They give the others movies (“Freakonomics,” “Stone” and “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger” two minutes each. Then, it’s time for Interquel. Episode 28: ‘Secretariat,’ ‘My Soul to Take,’ ‘Life As We Know It,’ ‘It’s Kind of a Funny Story,’ ‘Never Let Me Go,’ ‘Waiting for Superman’
It’s another show jam-packed with movies, so many of them that a time limit must be enforced. “Secretariat” gets a big ol’ “meh” from Bayer and Snider; “My Soul to Take” is one of the worst, most bafflingly bad horror films they’ve seen in a while; “Life As We Know It,” despite its premise, isn’t awful, but ‘taint good neither; “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” is a fairly good comedy about depressed teenagers; “Never Let Me Go” is faithful to its source material, especially in conveying the emotions of it; and “Waiting for Superman” is a somewhat dry but important documentary about our crappy, crappy schools. There’s also talk of people’s favorite ball-free sports movies — lots of boxing, running, and kicking. Episode 25: ‘The Town,’ ‘Easy A,’ ‘Devil,’ ‘I’m Still Here,’ Interquel
In this week’s edition of Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider it is revealed that Ben Affleck is a good director and actor and we shouldn’t make fun of him anymore. “The Town” is solid cops-and-robbers fun! Also fun is “Easy A,” a teen satire, though Bayer and Snider differed on just how much fun it is. They agreed that “Devil” — not screened for critics, so they had to catch it at midnight Thursday night, like chumps — isn’t worth your time.
