Skip the HX if so. It's loaded with quality IRs and will sound good with minimal tweaking right out of the box direct or through headphones. Iridium - Amp Modeler & Impulse Response Cabinet - Strymon Makers of precision-crafted music electronics and effects pedals. The sound of the Iridium is fantastic and it works great with the Riverside and Klon. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. The Strymon Iridium. I think the HX Stomp's got more accurate simulations of different effects, tbh - but I don't really use too many of those; just a TS-style boost, delay and reverb. tah1962 likes this. I’ve been considering swapping out my hx stomp for one of these or the iridium. They're both high quality amp modelers, tbh. Out of those two, I'd go with the HX Stomp - purely because of versatility. The Strymon Iridium is not only the newest player in the amp modeling technology world but it is also by far one of the cheapest alternatives to the likes of the Kemper, OxAmp and Line6. The Iridium's also an amp modeler though. The simplicity of the Iridium vs. my regular "Vox/Marshall tube amp + UA Ox" setup is wonderful. I think the HX Stomp would win out on versatility for me. Although there's something to be said about buying Line 6 modeling gear & their incredible support for their products + their large community; there's way more community made patches available on the HX Stomp & you'd get more frequent firmware updates. Also if you're interested in Native for recording since you'll get a healthy discount. Works great. HX Stomp is great if you're willing to sink some time into it (and most people feel the need to purchase IRs rather than fiddling with Helix's cab system). New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. Yes, but I wonder which one sounds and feels better to the people who used it both. The Strymon Iridium is that, but in compact-and-portable pedal form, with three different amps, three different speaker cabs per amp, nice built-in room reverb, and stereo output. Many people actually own both. And it's glorious. The HX (Helix) line has come a long way and sounds loads better than when it first came out. The best place to start if you're new is right below in our "Rules" section. Not only do you get a wide range of amp sounds, but a ton of effects, though you are limited to the 6 (soon to be 8) blocks of sims and effects in any one patch. I can't decide which one to get. This is a forum where guitarists, from novice to experienced, can explore the world of guitar through a variety of media and discussion. Posts: 2,106. I think I'd go with the HX Stomp. It's a pedal size modelling amp that seems to be aimed at a price point a little lower than the HX Stomp. I play mostly high gain stuff, and to me personally, the Mooer had some really really great high gain amp sims. I was on the cusp of getting an HX Stomp before I discovered the Mooer GE200. I have a Stomp, I bought it because I was already going down the Native route and the Iridium was not out yet. Mar 4, 2020 #3. mRtINY Friend of Leo's. Anyone tried both? Welcome to r/guitar, a community devoted to the exchange of guitar related information and entertainment. I havnt used either, but ive got to mention, versatility doesnt mean shit. 4. I do think for what I use it for (mostly headphone playing) the Iridium may be more plug and play, but I am very happy with the Stomp and don't think you can really go wrong with either. Do you have an amp you like and will be using? That said, it is also the most limited in terms of what solid state amps you can use. If you have guitar related questions, use the "Search" field or ask the community. Thank you. Thanks for visiting. Most if the time swiss army knives are the worst tool for the job unless its all you have. I play mostly high gain stuff, and to me personally, the Mooer had some really really great high gain amp sims. Dont fall for the swiss army knife fallacy. If you have the Native, do stomp and native sound different? Price – £399 / $510. HX Stomp is a full on effects pedal in addition to being a virtual amp. Press J to jump to the feed. A lot of people also feel to get good headphone sound you need to blow a block on a reverb (room or tile). Joined: May 7, 2015 Location: Orygun. I've tried all three and the Iridium is on my main board and my P&W board. I was on the cusp of getting an HX Stomp before I discovered the Mooer GE200. Also perhaps surprisingly, many folks feel the Helix devices work better with pedals both before and after (Strymon does not have an effects loop, the Helix does but you need to blow a block on it). Plug it in, turn it on, and you're ready to rock. Iridium is pretty good. They Iridium's a high quality amp modeler, but the Line 6 Helix stuff has very high quality amp models... and a lot more of them. So if you're into high gain stuff, don't shy away from the Mooer stuff. But it is not a multi effects pedal, nor does it have the crazy range of amp simulations that the Helix offers. It could have 1000 mediocre sounds but id rather have a pedal with one great sound. Strymon is going to do your basic Fender, Marshall and Vox extremely well out of the gate. The HX-Stomp has the best editor and the most functionality.
